Opt-in Open for 4th Quarter Hybrid Learningopt-in

All CPS families, who have not yet returned to schools in-person, should have received a form via email to submit their choice on in-person or remote learning for the fourth quarter.

The opt-in window is available to students in all grades (pre-K through 12) and will remain open for two weeks until March 19. This will be the final opportunity to choose in-person learning this school year. Please ensure you complete this form.

Families who opt-in will be able to return Monday, April 19--the first day of the fourth quarter. Families who are already enrolled in classroom-based learning will not need to fill out the intent form to remain in-person.

There is a CPS-wide elementary school town hall on Tuesday, March 16, from 5 to 6:30 p.m. to learn more about the plans. REGISTER for the town hall.

Skinner Superstar Debate Teamdebate
The Skinner West Debate Team participated in the Chicago Middle School Debate League's Tournament Three for the 2020-2021 season on Saturday, January 16. This year's topic is "Criminal Justice Reform," and the cases being debated were: Money Bail, Predictive Policing, and Body Cameras.

About 115 debaters across 61 teams from seven schools competed, and our students did a fantastic job against some tough competition. Skinner West won first place in six out of six award categories, sweeping the tournament!

Congratulations to Grier B. who won the Robin Williams award (judges praising an individual debater) and Rebecca B. won the Shout Out award (debaters praising one of their peer debaters)!

CPS Proposes Change to School Year Calendarcalendar-change
CPS is proposing the 2021-22 school year begin a week earlier on August 30 (instead of September 7, when school would traditionally resume). Beginning school a week early will:
  • Help minimize summer learning loss after an already disrupted 2020-21 school year
  • Provide additional instructional time to high school students in advance of high-stakes spring exams such as SAT, PSAT, AP, and IB
  • Allow for an earlier start to the 2022 summer break

This proposed calendar will be available for public comment through March 17. Feedback on this proposed change is welcome in anticipation of the school board voting on the calendar on March 24.
